Casting & Quality Engineer

At our headquarters in Rotterdam, AddOptics is developing a unique manufacturing process for prescription Augmented Reality (AR) lenses. As a Casting Engineer, you will play a hands-on role in turning advanced optical designs into real, high-precision products. Working closely with our production team, you will execute and refine our proprietary casting process, use rapid prototyping tools to improve workflows, and help solve the practical engineering challenges behind next-generation wearable technology. This is a high-impact opportunity for a technically minded student who enjoys building, experimenting, and contributing directly to cutting-edge hardware development.

Location: Rotterdam, NL Commitment: 8 - 16 hours per week (Flexible scheduling) Background: BSc/MSc Student; Mechanical, Industrial Design, Applied Physics, or similar background.

The Mission

At our Rotterdam headquarters, we are perfecting a unique manufacturing process for prescription Augmented Reality (AR) lenses. We don’t just design; we build. As a Casting Engineer, you will be a core member of our production team. You won’t just be executing a process; you’ll be owning it, refining it, and helping us solve the physical puzzles of high-end wearable tech.

What You’ll Be Doing

This is a high-impact, hands-on role where you manage the bridge between design and physical reality.

  • Precision Casting: Execute the casting process for prescription AR lenses using our proprietary resin systems, as part of our production team.
  • Design Improvements: Beyond casting, you will work with in-house prototyping tools. You’ll be operating 3D printers and laser cutters to create jigs, fixtures, and tools that improve our workflow.
  • Quality Control: Perform measurement and analysis of our products. You help the team make sure our global customers receive only the best quality lenses.

What We’re Looking For

  • The Prototyping Mindset: You are comfortable with hands-on engineering. If you’ve spent time in a makerspace or lab with 3D printers and laser cutters, you’ll fit right in. 3D CAD modeling experience is a plus (Fusion 360 or similar)
  • Punctuality & Precision: You understand that in optics, the details are the product. You take pride in high-standard, repeatable work.
  • Ownership: You don’t just wait for instructions; you see a way to make a tool better and you take the initiative to fix it.
  • Student Side Job: Ideally a 2nd/3rd year BSc or a Master's student looking to apply their technical knowledge to real-world hardware.

Why Join AddOptics?

  • Be a Core Contributor: In our lean team, your work is visible and vital. You’ll work directly with senior engineers and have a real impact on our manufacturing success.
  • Deep-Tech & Rapid Prototyping: Gain experience with the hardware and processes powering the next generation of AR devices.
  • Competitive Pay & Flexibility: We offer a solid hourly wage and a schedule that respects your exam periods and deadlines.
